That Teaching BIT

Teaching that clicks is about more than passing on skills —

it’s about sparking curiosity, building trust, and creating joy in learning.

That Teaching Bit helps you strengthen the core of your teaching craft. Through practical tools and guided practice, you’ll learn how to:

  • Design lessons that make sense and flow

  • Create safe, supportive learning environments

  • Adapt to your students’ needs in the moment

  • Teach with confidence, clarity, and joy

Our roots are in paddlesports, but the principles apply anywhere — climbing, archery, music, or any discipline where teaching matters. What makes a lesson “click” in kayaking is the same process that creates breakthroughs in any field.

If you teach, this program is for you.

That Teaching bit

We were all exposed to many things in our certification courses. Yet, we never really had time or space to develop our teaching skills. Yes, we could repeat an IDEAS or Sell-Show-Do formula well enough to pass, but that is just an efficient way to deliver content. It is not so great for actually teaching our students something they can truly learn. These courses are designed to develop your ability to teach.

a glimpse of TTB

  • Everyone is recommended to take TCP’s Launchpad course, Kayak, Canoe, SUP and YOU.

Courses build on each other. We highly recommend you start with phase one; however, if you have similar training, you can jump in at any phase.

    • Ground where you are now and clarify the coach you aspire to be.

    • Move to the HOW - break down the ways we teach.

    • Explore and experience the teaching styles.

    • Begin putting those styles to work, applying them with intention and awareness.

    • See with clarity, honing your observation skills to catch the moments that shape learning.

    • Break down what you see, identifying patterns and priorities.

    • Choose teaching styles with intention, directly addressing the needs revealed in your observations.

    • Blend and adapt styles through canopying, responding in real time to paddlers and conditions.

  • We have the components and not it’s time to put it into action.

    • Read the group and environment to adapt your plan without losing focus.

    • Sequence teaching moments to build confidence, competence, and connection over the day.

    • Bring people, place, and purpose together into a fluid, intentional coaching approach

  • Four collaborative zoom sessions with learning and assignments happen between. All resources, and communication happens on the TCP hub hosted on Circle.

After the course you’ll have the option to sign up for a 20 min one-on-one.

✺ Frequently asked questions ✺

  • There are no strict prerequisites for Phase One. This program is open to all instructors, regardless of background or experience. Everyone can benefit — whether you’re building confidence, refining your approach, or gaining new insight into your teaching practice. If you’d like a strong foundation before joining a cohort, we recommend starting with Kayak, Canoe, SUP and You.

Phase Two does have a prerequisite. Participants should have completed Phase One or already be familiar with teaching styles and component skills. Phase Two builds on the frameworks introduced earlier and focuses on applying them in more complex teaching situations, with feedback and refinement.

  • Each group is intentionally small — usually 6 to 10 participants. You’ll get individual attention, space to ask questions, and time to share your experiences.

  • While our 4 video sessions are roughly 2.5 hours you’ll have work to do between those sessions. How long you choose to invest in that work is up to you.

  • A device that connects to Zoom, an internet connection, and a willingness to engage.

Everything else — recordings, resources, and discussions — lives in the TCP Hub.

  • All sessions are recorded and shared in the TCP Hub. You can rewatch at your own pace. Live attendance is best for discussion, but you’ll never miss the content.

  • No. This program is not an ACA course. This program focuses on how to teach — the depth of communication, styles, and connection. By building these skills, you bring more clarity, confidence, and impact to every lesson, regardless of discipline or background.

  • The TCP Hub is our private online space for this program. It’s where you’ll find session recordings, resources, and conversations between classes. Everything is organized in one place, simple to use, and designed to keep you connected. You can access on your desktop or on your phone through the circle app.

  • No. If you can click a Zoom link and log into the Hub, you’re ready. We provide clear instructions and support so the tech never gets in the way of learning.
