That Teaching BIT
That Teaching Bit is a coaching cohort designed to help instructors in any field grow their teaching craft. Whether you teach paddling, climbing, archery, or another skill-based discipline, you’ll learn frameworks for lesson design, observation, and coaching that help your students truly “get it.”
Our roots are in paddlesports, and that’s where many of our examples come from. But the teaching craft is universal. What makes a lesson “click” in kayaking is the same process that creates breakthroughs in climbing, archery, or music. If you teach, this program is for you.
TTB Courses
-
PHASE 1
THE WHY & HOW
Build a strong coaching foundation by understanding your approach, refining core skills, and applying teaching styles with purpose.
-
PHASE II
THE WHAT & WHY
Turn clear observations into intentional teaching choices, blending styles to meet the moment.
-
PHASE III
THE WHERE & WHEN
Bring it all together by designing adaptable, purposeful sessions that connect skills, styles, and pacing into a seamless learning experience.
That Teaching bit
We were all exposed to many things in our certification courses. Yet, we never really had time or space to develop our teaching skills. Yes, we could repeat an IDEAS or Sell-Show-Do formula well enough to pass, but that is just an efficient way to deliver content. It is not so great for actually teaching our students something they can truly learn. These courses are designed to develop your ability to teach.

Everyone is recommended to take TCP’s Launchpad course, Kayak, Canoe, SUP and YOU.
Courses build on each other. We highly recommend you start with phase one; however, if you have similar training, you can jump in at any phase.

✺ Frequently asked questions ✺
-
That Teaching Bit PART 1: anyone looking to improve their teaching practice is welcome. We’ve had brand new coaches, jsut starting out and coaches who have been doing it for over a decade. All benefited and all are welcome.
That Teaching Bit Part 2: requires TTB 1 or an equivalent training and use of component skills and teaching styles.
For ALL TCP courses we recommend you take the TCP Launchpad course: Kayak, Canoe, SUP and YOU. This is a self-paced 5 module course that will enhance your experience as a coach and as a student.
-
Intentionally kept small. This allows space for everyone’s perspective, voice and ideas to not only have room but are required to show up.
You show up and do the work; it’s not a lecture.
-
While our 4 video sessions are roughly 2.5 hours you’ll have work to do between those sessions. How long you choose to invest in that work is up to you.
-
All sessions are recorded and shared in the TCP Hub. These are not lectures, they are active working sessions, so it is recommended to attend all if possible.
-
This is not an ACA or other paddlesport governing body training. It supports the training you can receive from the ACA, PC, PUK, and others and works to fill gaps. These courses are about developing your craft as a teacher and coach.

The Connected Paddler (TCP) is hosted on the Circle App. This is where all resources, discussions and links will be shared. You will submit assignments and collaborate with your cohort members.
